As of the 1st July, it has been announced within the BBC that all television teams, or Linear as we in Multiplatform call them, have to deliver one clip per programme. This is to go on their APS website page.
As a result, there have been a number of ‘Masterclass’ sessions.
In one, they asked me to speak a little bit about the importance of a website and how it can be used to promote and keep the audience engaged.
I gave them the example of Big Brother. They use their website to release exclusive news, and by ‘exclusive news’ I don’t mean, “the housemates are in the garden”. I’m talking about the real juicy gossip that you would usually leave for the television programme.
For example, (and bare with me if you have nothing to do with BB11) even before Big Brothers Little Bother aired the news that Ben would be performing a stand up act in front of the eviction audience, Emma Willis did an exclusive video for the website! Click the flower below to see said video:
In my experience, that’s one of the best ways to use the web…to constantly remind people when a show is on, where to watch it, and what to expect…it’s like the new generation of Radio Times. But with moving pictures!
So here we are…to the future of Multiplatform. I hope a larger audience will understand the true potential of it!
